<p>The Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN) delivers practical nursing care to Veterans with diverse physical and behavioral needs, consistently promoting high-quality health care and exceptional customer service. Operating under the guidance of the Nurse Manager or designee, the Nurse demonstrates full technical competence and skill at full performance level. Select and sequence procedures/treatments appropriately for individual patient needs. Accurately recognize, report, and document relevant patient information. Perform thorough patient observation and respond to care needs, including equipment-assisted care and education. Prepare and administer prescribed medications by oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intravenous routes. Perform medical treatments according to established policies and procedures. Recognize urgent and emergent patient situations and seek RN/provider assistance as needed. Initiate and assist with emergency interventions per direction (e.g., code, resuscitation). Understand human behavior, patient motivations, and family dynamics to provide effective care. Build constructive relationships with patients and families to support communication and socialization. Foster respect for patient and family privacy, dignity, and rights. Consistently apply established customer service standards in all interactions. Demonstrate skill in assisting with complex diagnostic tests or specialized procedures. Prepare, assist, and monitor patients during diagnostic or specialized procedures. Handle specialized equipment and instruments as required. Monitor and record patient condition before, during, and after procedures. Provide education to patients and families about diseases, medications, and treatments. Share acquired knowledge with other staff . Maintain role-specific and unit-specific competencies. Demonstrate technical proficiency in all assigned nursing duties for diverse patient populations. Meet all documentation requirements in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) accurately and timely. Identify and appropriately prioritize and respond to changes in patient/veteran condition. Take actions based on communication, observations, and reports about patient care. Contribute observations and suggestions to improve the plan of care and veteran outcomes. Complete required and mandatory training/reviews within designated timeframes. Proactively address safety hazards, equipment malfunctions, and supply deficiencies. Promote a safe, therapeutic environment, considering all age-related/special needs. Provide care modalities to patients with complex medical and/or emotional conditions under RN supervision. Maintain competency in supporting IV therapy initiation, administration, and monitoring. Follow all infection control, patient safety goals, and hospital safety practices. Participate in nursing in-services and ongoing staff development opportunities. Serve as a role model and assist with orientation of nursing/non-nursing staff, students, and volunteers. Independently recognize and respond to emergency and life-threatening situations per policy. Respond promptly and effectively to both overt and subtle patient changes, notifying RN/provider appropriately. Collaborate with RNs, providers, and other disciplines for comprehensive care. Participate in the development, evaluation, and implementation of new/revised policies and procedures. Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in meeting the changing needs of patients and the unit. Work Schedule: 12-hour tours including weekdays, weekends, and Holidays. Tours determined by Supervisor. Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience. Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child. Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66. Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Telework: Not Authorized Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
