<p>The Lead Dental Assistant works with the Dental Service Chief to monitor and make work assignments, provide input on performance, resolve daily workplace issues, and maintain efficient flow of patient care.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Duties include but are not limited to the following: Facilitates Dental Service's processes by working collaboratively with dental assistants and other staff to ensure that tasks are completed, that good working relationships among Dental Service members and with management are maintained, and that the Dental Service's priorities, goals, needs, and achievements are coordinated with management. Serves in staff dental assistant position independently performing more complex work in assigned specialties in lead dental assistant positions. Assists the dentist in many aspects of direct patient care and performs other clinical and clerical functions independent of direct supervision. Provides instruction to other assistants in achieving diagnostic quality radiographs Provides instruction in maintenance of all dental service equipment Provides primary support to the chief for the daily deliver of department programs, reporting, staffing, and scheduling Coordinates the patients' care plans to reduce redundancies and delay in patient treatment Assists with ordering and maintaining supply levels for the service Incumbent sets up and breaks down/cleans operatory for planned dental procedures for maximum efficiency and follows Veterans Health Administration infection control standards and reusable medical equipment (RME) directives. Accurately orients and expose digital radiographs, including cone beam, with excellent diagnostic quality while ensuring dental imaging safety techniques are utilized; retakes are minimal, and imaging requests are accomplished within the desired time frame; and maintains digital image security.
