<p>This Lead Dental Assistant position is in the Dental Service at the VA Bedford Healthcare System, located at the Bedford, MA location. This position is a full-time, permanent position at 40 hours per week.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Employees at this level serve in Lead Dental Assistant assignments. The Lead Dental Assistant is under the general supervision of the Dental Assistant Supervisor, Health Systems Specialist and Service Chief and is expected to perform administratively as they pertain to the dental assistant functions with minimal supervision. Duties include but are not limited to: Coordinates daily dental assistant work assignments, monitors the status and progress of work, make adjustments if necessary and ensures the work assignments are carried out. Trains team members and students in the accomplishment of tasks or projects. Maintains current knowledge and answers questions from team members on procedures, policies and directives. Prepares clinic rotation schedules for maintaining dental clinic and follows through to ensure that tasks have been performed. Monitors function of dental equipment and requests repair or replacement. Prepares electronic work orders and monitors completion. Conducts audits at the direction of the supervisory dental assistant in areas such as infection control, workflow, privacy, safety, and continuous quality improvement. Advance use of the computerized dental patient records system to include initiating patient consults, storing and viewing images, entry of diagnostic data, setting up for treatment planning and presentation to the patient and providing training to staff dental assistants to effectively use the computerized record system. This position is covered by locality-based comparability pay. Narrative responses to the knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) may be required from the selectee in order to proceed with the appointment.</p><h3>Requirements</h3>You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this job. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. Must be proficient in written and spoken English. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
