ABOUT THIS ROLE

<p>Investigative Registered Nurse (IRN) functions as advanced clinical and administrative investigator within the Quality Management Service. The nurse provides leadership and expert-level consultation in the evaluation of patient care events, documentation concerns, adverse outcomes, and organizational processes related to patient safety, clinical risk, and quality of care.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Duties included but are not limited to: Investigative Registered Nurse (IRN) independently plans, conducts, coordinates and leads facility-level investigations to include Administrative Investigative Boards, Fact Findings, Harassment Prevention Program and Office of Inspector General Hotline Referrals, ensuring compliance with VHA policy, regulatory requirements, and accrediting body standards. Demonstrates leadership in improving care and systems through expert analysis, recommendations, and data-driven improvements. Delivers self-directed, professional nursing practice using the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation) for complex patients based on conscious and deliberate planning with occasional supervision. Provides and directs other in Veteran/patient driven care by optimizing the patient experience, satisfaction, and/or safety for a team of patients. Nurse II/III IRN provides leadership and expert-level consultation in the evaluation of patient care events, documentation concerns, adverse outcomes, and organizational processes related to patient safety, clinical risk, and quality of care. Nurse II/III IRN independently plans, conducts, coordinates and leads facility-level investigations to include Administrative Investigative Boards, Fact Findings, Harassment Prevention Program and Office of Inspector General Hotline Referrals, ensuring compliance with VHA policy, regulatory requirements, and accrediting body standards. The nurse demonstrates leadership in improving care and systems through expert analysis, recommendations, and data-driven improvements. The role supports High Reliability Organization (HRO) principles and impacts outcomes across services. This is a non-direct patient care role requiring mastery of nursing practice, expert clinical judgment, and demonstrated professional leadership. Demonstrates expertise in professional practice using the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation) with improved evidence-based and/or data-driven outcomes beyond the immediate practice setting. Leads initiatives to improve Veteran/patient experience, satisfaction and/or safety beyond the immediate practice setting. Communicates and collaborates as an effective leader of the interprofessional team, at the expert level, with improved evidence-based and/or data-driven outcomes beyond the immediate practice setting. Enhances knowledge base and practice evaluation, at the expert level, with improved outcomes beyond the immediate practice setting. Leads the identification and integration of evidence-based practice/research with clinical expertise to improve quality of care and resource utilization at the expert level with improved outcomes beyond the immediate practice setting. Meets the needs of all customers while supporting the Medical Center and Service missions. Consistently communicates and treats customers (patients, visitors, volunteers, and all Medical Center staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner. Provides the customers with consistent information according to established policies and procedures. Handles conflict and problems in dealing with customer constructively and appropriately. Telework: Available. This position is authorized for telework but has not been authorized as virtual or remote (i.e., the must be able to work at the location the position is being announced for).
