Job Description:
• Reviews daily census and processes cases for patients requesting assistance, ensuring all proper documentation is obtained.
• Counsels patients or representatives on hospital accounts to meet requirements for charity programs and state-funded programs.
• Identifies in-patients with Medicaid Share of Cost (SOC) for bill tracking and submission to the Department of Children and Families (DCF).
• Identifies patients with Medicaid eligibility who have delivered a newborn during the current admission and adds the newborn to the guarantor's Medicaid.
• Maintains effective rapport with Case Management staff to aid in proper discharge planning and ensure financial assessments are updated.
• Reviews daily census for uninsured or underinsured patients to determine necessary interventions and completes thorough financial assessments.
• Maintains a general understanding of federal, local, and state program requirements to determine payer sources for uninsured patients.
• Reviews financial assistance forms and prepares encounters for financial assistance programs in a timely manner, adhering to guidelines.
• Assists patients or responsible parties requiring financial or billing assistance upon arrival at the facility.
• Accurately works and maintains all assigned work queues in the hospital billing system.
• Adheres to corporate compliance guidelines and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
• Compiles daily reports to ensure all in-patient and observation patients are reviewed. Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Intermediate knowledge of computers, internet use and typing skills required. [Required]
• Must have basic understanding of Medical Terminology. [Required]
• Good communication skills when discussing personal/patient related issues. [Required]
• Responsive to ever-changing hospital needs and acts accordingly. [Preferred]
• Proficiency in performance of basic math functions, capability of communicating professionally and effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. [Preferred]
Education:
• Associate [Preferred]
• High School Grad or Equiv [Required]
Work Experience:
• 1+ year of position-related experience [Required]
Licenses and Certifications:
• Certified Patient Account Specialist (CPAS) [Preferred]
