<p>The fee-basis optometrist, provides direct comprehensive eye care services for outpatients with limited inpatient care. This position is located in Kernersville Health Care Center (HCC), North Carolina. A Fee-Basis Appointment in VHA is a flexible, non-standard appointment allowing qualified healthcare providers to deliver direct patient care for specific services. They're paid per service, at pre-determined rates based on local market benchmarks, and their pay is subject to annual caps.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>What is Fee Basis: "Fee basis" in a work context typically means being paid a fixed amount for a specific task or project, rather than an hourly wage or a fixed salary. This method of payment is often used for certain professional or administrative employees, or for independent contractors. The fee is agreed upon in advance and covers the entire scope of work, regardless of the time it takes to complete. FEE BASIS Clinical: The fee-basis appointed optometrist provides high-quality patient care to outpatients, and limited inpatient care if assigned. Remains updated with the latest developments in managing and treating ocular diseases through continuing medical education and active state licensure as credentialed and privileged through SBY VA HCS. Integrates patient care activities within the Optometry Service and collaborates with other patient care programs of the medical center and the community as applicable. Demonstrates expertise in diagnosing and treating seriously ill, multi-symptomatic patients. Adapts schedules and assignments to meet frequent, unpredictable changes in workload and deadlines. Participates in multidisciplinary activities involving treatment plans, referrals, and coordination of care as applicable. Provides other clinical services as assigned, consistent with clinical privileges. Administrative: Participate in various facility programs designed to enhance and improve the delivery of patient care services, quality, and patient safety. Pay: Salary is paid based of Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting Work Schedule: Negotiable</p><h3>Requirements</h3>U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. Must be proficient in written and spoken English. Subject to background/security investigation. Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process. Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents). Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment. Must pass pre-employment physical examination. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
