<p>This specialty involves the specific knowledge and abilities to perform complex imaging of the breast. Mammographers must be able to employ specialized mammographic image techniques such as magnification views and implant views of the breast. The mammographer is required to be completely familiar with, and adhere to, all U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines regulating the practice of mammography, radiation safety, and quality assurance requirements.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The Technologist has the overall responsibility for the coordination and performance of all exams performed in the X-ray and mammography section within Diagnostic Imaging Service. The technologist assists the VA Healthcare System through the FDA and ACR accreditation in mammography. Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Operate mammography, X-ray, C-arm, DEXA and Fluoroscopy equipment to obtain high quality examinations and provide feedback and follow-up to the supervisor/lead interpreting physician and biomedical staff. Submits results of inspections, evaluations, and surveys to VHA Mammography Office Performs and reviews quality control tasks performed by self and additional mammography technologist and immediately report any failing data and/or testing, issues or concerns to supervisor and lead technologist Establishes, maintains, and updates documentation from the physicist (i.e., physicist inspections as well as work orders), of themselves ,additional mammography technologist, and mammography radiologists continuing education and continuing experience for review by FDA inspector and the ACR(accreditation body) Submits accreditation materials in a prompt and timely manner to allow the review process to be completed prior to certificate expiration, which would mean an interruption in mammography service delivery Provides corrective actions and troubleshooting and immediately notifies the supervisor and lead technologist of related concerns Submits work order to contact a biomedical engineer as needed Performs quality control to record, track and maintain appropriate data Accurately record and maintain weekly, semi-annual and annual checklists of quality control areas and at the frequency noted Determines technical factors, set controls, and operate equipment ensuring that the portion of the body specified receives the correct calculated exposure Secures the confidence and cooperation of patients during procedures Thoroughly explains procedures, positions patients for desired results, cushions, and shields patients as appropriate Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30 am to 4:00 pm (Subject to change based on the needs of the service) Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Not Authorized Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not Authorized Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience. Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child. Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66. Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
