ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>This position specializes in the operation of a super conductive Magnetic Resonance Imager (MRI), a highly complex computerized imaging device which employs the use of strong magnetic fields and radio waves to acquire images.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>This occupational series may be eligible for the Student Loan Repayment Program (SLRP). Repayment is limited to $40,000 annually, up to $100,000 in lifetime awards. Participants must sign a three-year service agreement and maintain an acceptable level of performance to remain eligible for this program. Contact VHAV23SLRP@va.gov for more information. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Checks all equipment and reports failures to the MRI Supervisor or Lead Technologist. Employees have a responsibility to recognize and exhibit good safety practices; to comply with published and communicated safety procedures; to immediately report observed safety infractions and unsafe working conditions; and to report in a timely fashion work related illnesses/injury. The incumbent advises the Radiologist of those examinations which require immediate attention while the patient is still undergoing the examination. The incumbent practices sterile techniques to prevent contamination. The incumbent accurately and routinely performs the associated DHCP and imaging network responsibilities that relate to a patient examination and the patient's record. The incumbent is responsible for setting up and positioning patients, provides immobilization devices, selects proper technical factors on an individual patient basis and operates the equipment. The incumbent uses computer programs with competence and establishes and monitors quality control programs. The incumbent is a member of a team providing 24 hour/day capability including after hours response to emergencies which require MRI technical support. The incumbent will be asked to participate in such emergency care.
