ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>The Primary Purpose of the Position is: Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist-Interventional Radiology (IR), serves as a team member who provides complex imaging procedures to perform diagnostic and therapeutic non-invasive procedures of the Vascular system, Gastro-duodenal, Genito-Urinary system, Endocrine system, Neurological and Musculoskeletal systems among others.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>VA Careers - Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist: https://youtube.com/embed/I-4ku5UMvWM Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Duties are but not limited to: A. Prepares patient for requested procedure to include but not limited to: The technologist begins each procedure by correctly identifying the patient in accordance with the Joint Commission's National Patient Safety Goals, ensuring all identifiers are verified before care continues. The technologist confirms that patient clothing is appropriate for the area of interest and secures the patient's belongings, returning them at the conclusion of the procedure. A clear explanation of the procedure is provided, and patient questions are addressed within the scope of their understanding. B. Maintains electronic patient records as follow: The technologist ensures full compliance with institutional policies and regulatory requirements regarding the safeguarding of patient information, maintaining confidentiality at all times. Before and after the procedure, the technologist verifies that the proper request has been submitted and confirms that all necessary CPT codes are accurately applied and closed out to ensure appropriate workload capture for Interventional Radiology and ancillary services. The technologist ensures that all images successfully transfer into the PACS system, resolving quality-assurance issues and taking corrective action when errors arise that may impact report accuracy or availability. C. Prepares Interventional Radiology procedures utilizing surgical sterile techniques: The technologist consistently applies infection-control practices when preparing the procedure table, organizing trays, and performing procedural site preparation to maintain a safe and sterile environment. The technologist adheres strictly to all facility-approved sterile processes and protocols before, during, and after each procedure to ensure patient safety and reduce the risk of infection. D. Performs tasks with minimal to no supervision from the Interventional Radiologist: The technologist obtains hemostasis following vascular procedures, ensuring patient safety and monitoring for post-procedure complications. The technologist performs gastric tube evaluations and percutaneous drain checks, confirming proper placement and function. The technologist is responsible for securing various drainage and connecting tubes to maintain stability and prevent dislodgement E. Demonstrates knowledge of proper use and administration of contrast agents normally used in the interventional suite: The technologist demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of the indications and contraindications associated with contrast media, including recognition of contrast reaction symptoms and the immediate treatments required to manage them. The technologist maintains knowledge of the location and proper use of emergency medical equipment necessary to respond to adverse contrast reactions. F. Demonstrates accurate knowledge of equipment and supplies used in a modern Angio/ Interventional suite: The technologist possesses thorough knowledge of the use and function of all guidewires, angiographic catheters, and dilation catheters, as well as the accessory devices commonly used in the angiography suite, including drains, caps, pressure lines, stopcocks, manifolds, and sheaths. Work Schedule: 7:30am-4:00pm, 8:00am-4:30pm rotating standby call/holidays Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Not Authorized Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year). Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
