<p>As the resident expert in clinical informatics and health IT, the CHIO serves as the primary advisor to the Medical Center Director, Chief of Staff, Associate Director, Patient Care Services, Associate Director, and other facility leaders. The CHIO is expected to be a strong agent for change and must demonstrate and ability to understand the needs of his professional counterparts, for example, nurses, physicians, pharmacist, etc.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>VA Careers - Pharmacy: https://youtube.com/embed/Fn_ickNBEws FUNCTIONS OF POSITION Play key role in using the capability of the VA clinical information systems to assist practitioners in doing the right things for the right patients at the right time Ensures adequate support to measurably improve the quality of data and the transfer of clinical information between providers. Ensures valid information is available to the patients and to their health care practitioner. Coordinates the use of electronic health record software packages for the provision of quality clinical care as well as the use of clinical decision support tools to streamline the process of patient care and provide accurate date in a timely manner. Rational therapeutics within the Medical Center are assisted by this process. Ensure the VHA EHR operates in a way that improves patient care, ensures patient safety, and meets the needs of providers through continuous evaluation, testing, and improvement of the system. Evaluates clinical computing systems; analyze and evaluate the effect of interventions on health outcomes. Enable healthcare capabilities and the evolution of technology adjoined to the EHR to deliver quality care by developing, implementing, monitoring, maintaining, and optimizing informatics tools and access to them. Evaluate, document, analyze, prioritize, and recognize requirements for the improvement of the EHR and other systems in collaboration with the end-user. Expand and enhance patient access to patient information through the various initiatives, and further the effective and efficient use of medical information systems for patients. Contribute to the planning and execution of computer hardware/software development to meet patient care needs and ensure optimal computer use. Uses communication, education, and leadership to support comprehension of and adaptation to organizational updates; leveraging project management principles and environmental assessment to drive adoption of change. Effectively create, integrate, disseminate, and manage data for all enterprise applications, processes and entities requiring timely and accurate data delivery. Manage all aspects of JJPVAMC Data Warehouse including architecture, database structure, reporting services, training and education and utilization. Use JJPVAMC Data Warehouse to provide data to management for strategic and operative planning and employ such data to guide management decisions. Participate in the Office of Information and Technology (Ol&T) Regional Data Warehouse committees as well as VHA Data Warehousing committees. Develops and maintains database and information management systems in support of evidence-based practice within the Medical Center. Evaluate content quality and assure access to knowledge resources, eliminating redundancy in duplicate data sources, and improving information interoperability across the organization. Coordinate information management support for clinical activities within the medical center by participating collaboratively with staff to design, implement, and evaluate the clinical information systems configuration, and the capabilities that will be used. These activities will include the scholarly endeavors of JJPVAMC staff and affiliate trainees. Work closely with the Department of Veterans Affairs' Office of Information and Technology (Ol&T), Biomedical engineering, Medical, Nursing, and other clinical staff. Participate as a liaison between services and committees, teams, and ad hoc work groups. Work collaboratively with appropriate leadership to identify strategic opportunities and initiatives that will enhance organizational improvement efforts through the systematic application of informatics principles and tools. Participate on Informatics and analytics councils at local and VISN levels. Cultivate and maintain effective relationships with key partners and stakeholders that impact informatics from the central office level, through the facility level. Coordinate the collaboration of informatics with quality assurance, clinical cost analysis, equipment procurements, biomedical and 01&T activities. Communicates orally and in writing with a wide variety of individuals serving as a consultant at the local, regional, and national level on clinical information systems. Ensure that all local, VISN and national informatics policies are implemented properly and in a timely manner. Develop and manage the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) business architecture, which structures and communicates the VHA healthcare business, and includes descriptions of business behaviors, functionality, processes, and the flow of information that is required to achieve VHA's mission.
