Please note, this position is only open to Southern Nevada Healthcare System Employees Only.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Bed Management System (BMS) Coordinator The Bed Management System (BMS) Coordinator is responsible for coordinating patient care with a focus on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction across the continuum of care. The BMS Coordinator administers medications and procedures according to established policies and guidelines, and actively participates in unit and program quality improvement processes and customer service initiatives. The BMS Coordinator delivers competent, evidence-based care to assigned patients, and provides oversight to licensed vocational nurses and nursing assistants, as appropriate to the setting. Major Duties and Responsibilities: Utilize the nursing process to facilitate safe, efficient patient movement. Manage routine patient transfers and admissions using BMS and EDIS. Maintain proficiency in patient movement during emergency and disaster scenarios, including full-scale facility evacuations using BMS emergency management features. Keep point of contact information current on the BMS SharePoint site. Provide real-time updates to BMS-specifically Patient Pending Bed Placement (PPBP). Participate in interdisciplinary team rounds, huddles, and discharge planning to ensure timely patient movement. Engage in educational activities to maintain expertise in clinical knowledge and patient flow management. Effectively communicate patient flow issues to appropriate staff in a timely manner. Participate in committees, task forces, and continuous improvement initiatives related to patient flow. Foster open communication and strong working relationships with all individuals involved in patient flow, including admissions, transfers, and discharges. Utilize patient flow tools and systems (e.g., IFMT, EMMT) to support and evaluate facility-wide patient movement. Serve as an active member of the Utilization Management (UM)/Patient Flow Committee, reporting monthly flow data analyses. Educate and serve as a resource for staff on the use of BMS and EDIS. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of BMS information, including updates to the PPBP list for transfers and admissions. Coordinate with medical facility leadership to ensure an adequate number of competent BMS alternates are available for daily, operational, and emergency use. Monitor bed demand and availability, identify potential surges, and communicate proactively to help prevent diversion. Assist leadership in making decisions about diversion status and taking actions to open beds as needed. Track bed status and flow activities (e.g., bed cleaning) during periods of surge. Complete collateral duties in the absence of other patient flow command center members. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE IS LISTED BELOW. Masters degree in Nursing or health related field 3-5 years experience Program Coordinator 1 year or greater as Care Coordinator Knowledge of Bed Management System (BMS) and Emergency Department Information System (EDIS) Proficient in Microsoft Office Experience in collaborating with interdisciplinary teams Active participation in unit/program level quality improvement processes Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday, Variable depending on facility needs Location: 6900 N.
