ABOUT THIS ROLE

<p>The Assistant Chief Nurse executes leadership that is characterized by substantial and continuous responsibility for population groups or integrated programs that cross service and/or discipline lines, influence organizational mission and health care, and responsibility for outcomes. Responsible for the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care. Ensure support and guidance while providing oversight for the delivery of care and management of personnel and resources.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team. Accountable for all regulatory and environmental surveys and adheres to mandatory response timelines. Assists the Chief Nurse in providing leadership, administrative and clinical oversight of all nursing staff and programs that report to the Chief Nurse of Operations. A self-directed clinical leader, educator and consultant utilizing management theory in collaboration with Patient Care Services (PCS) and other services. Establish and maintain effective relationships with all levels of medical center personnel and relate effectively with customers, families and the community as well as program and service leaders at the local and network levels. Contribute ideas and recommendations for the establishment of standards of care, policies, and objectives for the enhancement of nursing organization-wide, while assisting in policy-making activities as related to customer service and the overall functioning of administrative and clinical programs. Supports and role models patient-family centered care concepts in patient care services. Engages in professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth. Equips staff with tools for competent care and promote accountability for high-quality, cost-effective outcomes. Assist with the development of care delivery models and environmental design, ensuring evidence-based, accessible, affordable, and equitable patient care. Align nursing/clinical objectives with organizational strategic outcomes, participating in strategy planning and execution. Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: May be authorized for a highly qualified candidate Preferred Experience: Four or more years of clinical experience. Four or more years of progressive leadership experience. Diversity in nursing clinical or leadership experience (inpatient, outpatient, operations, etc.) National certification in related field. Proficient in quality improvement tools and methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma, PDSA) and skilled in data analysis and visualization (e.g., Excel, Power BI). Demonstrated high-level performance in interpersonal communication and collaboration. Masters Degree or higher highly preferred. Current experience/knowledge in hospital wide Nursing Operations (UM, informatics, NODs, PT flow, emergency management, recruitment, staffing methodology/staffing etc.) Evidence of advanced knowledge of Nursing operations/metrics and of external/internal review and/or accrediting body standards, such as Joint Commission, CARF, OIG CAP, MHEOC, HRO, etc. Seeks personal, professional development through attendance at leadership programs (i.e. Leadership VA, Leadership Bay Pines, or HCLDP) or equivalent.</p><h3>Requirements</h3>U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. Subject to background/security investigation.
