<p>The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) for Fayetteville, AR practices in Surgical Service Urology to provide a full range of services emphasizing quality, timeliness, and the advancement of the Veterans Affairs (VA) mission. The NP provides advanced clinical practice, consultation, and management.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks is currently recruiting for an Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner to work in the Urology Section of Surgical Service. This mid-level provider will perform history & physical exams, will order/interpret diagnostic tests, (e.g. UA, bladder scan), develop treatment plans, schedule additional follow-up, initiate referral consults (internal and external). Performs minor procedures (e.g. foley insert/change/irrigation, dilation, wound care) in clinical setting and inpatient setting. Prescribes medications within defined scope of practice. Conducts patient education/counseling (e.g. disease process, recommended therapy/procedure, adverse effects of therapy, expected outcomes, pre-op instruction, foley/wound care); conducts patient consultation in the absence of a Urologist; completes necessary documentation in electronic medical records (e.g. progress note, consult, discharge summary). The Advanced Practice Nurse Nurse Practitioner participates in a shared rotation of night and weekend On-Call coverage. Performs other directly related duties as assigned. Duties will include but are not limited to: Independently manages a panel of patients with acute and chronic health conditions with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention using evidence-based practice. Develops and implements an individualized plan to achieve optimal population health and disease management.-Demonstrates leadership and works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team. Orders and interprets labs, tests, and diagnostic studies. Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions. Initiates referrals and consults to specialty services. Provides education to patients and their families. Assesses and adjusts the plan of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes. May require occasional travel to VA Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) for coverage purposes, based on organizational needs. Permanent Change of Station (PCS): Not authorized.</p><h3>Requirements</h3>U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. Subject to background/security investigation. Must pass pre-employment physical examination. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
