<p>The Outpatient Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible and accountable for individual nursing practices and determines the appropriate delegation of tasks consistent with the nurse's obligation to provide optimal care. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care based on specific components. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Preferred Experience: minimum of 2 years of experience on an outpatient medical surgical unit. Registered Nurse- Outpatient Surgical The function of the Outpatient-Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) is to provide, direct, and supervise the delivery of quality nursing care to a mixed veteran population of varying complexity. The Acute Care Inpatient RN delivers fundamental knowledge-based care to assigned clients while developing technical skills. Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines. Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team. As a member of the acute care team, process improvement and engagement are of utmost importance. The team member integrates theoretical concepts with critical thinking and technical skills to deliver safe effective care. Core elements of performance include knowledge and active participation in the unit/program level quality improvement process and initiatives as well as customer service programs. Other duties include, but are not limited to: Independently plans and delivers technically competent care to patients with complex needs in alignment with the ANA Standards of Nursing Practice. Manages the care of patients, while organizing and prioritizing patient care needs, and ensuring assigned tasks are completed. Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of interdisciplinary care. Provides and directs others in Veteran/patient driven care that optimizes the patient's experience, satisfaction, and/or safety for a team of patients. Establishes a therapeutic relationship, allowing the patient to attain, maintain or regain optimal function through assessment and treatment. Engages patients, families, and other caregivers to incorporate knowledge, values, and beliefs into care planning without judgement or discrimination. Demonstrates positive, effective communication skills and professional behaviors that promote cooperation and teamwork with internal and external customers. Recognizes ethical issues related to professional nursing practice and models appropriate action by providing and directing others in the provision of care following established policies and Code of Ethics for Nurses. Actively contributes to the collaboration process and clearly communicates ideas to promote team success. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. Subject to background/security investigation. Must pass pre-employment physical examination. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
