ABOUT THIS ROLE
<p>This Cardiac Cath Lab/EP and Holding Registered Nurse is located at the Kansas City VA Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. The incumbent Nurse delivers and manages the care of patients undergoing therapeutic and diagnostic cardiology procedures including both inpatients and outpatients. Assesses the patients physical and mental status prior to procedures, educates on procedural and pre/post-procedural care, and documents responses to interventions, findings, and reports any changes.</p><h3>Major Duties</h3><p>Duties include, but are not limited to: The Cardiac Catheterization/Electrophysiology Laboratory and holding (CCL) Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based procedural care to assigned patients and oversight of staff, including but not limited to licensed vocational/practical nurses and/or health technicians/nursing assistants, as appropriate in the pre/post procedural setting. The CCL RN provides patient care, care coordination, health promotion, health education and coaching. They will assist in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies, and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization Delivers and manages the care of patients undergoing therapeutic and diagnostic cardiology procedures including both inpatients and outpatients. Assesses the patients physical and mental status prior to procedures, educates on procedural and pre/post-procedural care, and documents responses to interventions, findings, and reports any changes. Partners with the patient, family, and interdisciplinary team to promote effective and safe transitions across the health care continuum, including the Veteran's goals of care. Provides peers with informal constructive feedback for improvement. Fosters a safe and supportive environment conducive to the development of healthcare professionals. Shares educational findings, experiences, and ideas with peers. Integrates evidence-based practice with clinical expertise. Participates in activities and strategies to sustain and improve an evidence-based-practice culture. The CCL RN may function in several roles to include scheduling and pre procedure education, pre-procedure assessments, post procedural recovery, and assisting physicians during procedures. Collaborates with the Cardiology team including Physicians, Extended Providers, other RNs, Sonographers and Radiologic Technologists. Performs nursing care within the Cardiology Department including Echocardiography, Pre/Post Procedure Unit Department, in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab as well as in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) or at the patient bedside. Maintain proficiency on the maintenance, cleaning, and preparation of cardiology specific equipment. Recognize changes in patient care situations and initiate appropriate emergency responses. Adapts to changes in the daily schedule. May be assigned call, in which the CCL RN will follow all facility policies regarding response time. Has experience with the situations in which they are ultimately expected to perform, integrating theoretical concepts, strong critical thinking skills, and exhibits a robust technically skilled practice.
